SPLASH 'N DASH

Entry Form (pdf file)

The Lake Whittaker Splash n dash is a weekly training race held every Wednesday at 6:30 pm from June 9 to August 25, 2010. Our objective it to provide a fun, grass roots evening of structured, supervised events that will suit both the rookie, wannabe and the experienced, seasoned triathlete.  Of course some of you may want a challenge and be competitive [but that will be amongst friends].

There will be no accolades for the fastest, the slowest, the Clydesdale, the young, the old the short or the tall, however, random, draw prizes will be available.

Athletes can choose to swim either 1 loop – 750 meters or 2 loops -1500. The run distance will vary each week from 5 and 7 k and will be held within the conservation grounds.  We will change up the run course every week, and for variety they will include dirt roads, trails and grass fields.  There will be at least one aid station on the run.

We will do our best to provide accurate timing, however please remember that this is not the Olympics.  So if you are concerned about your time/splits/transitions/etc wear your watch.

Please arrive as early as possible to avoid a backup into the park.  All events start and finish at the day use area of Lake Whittaker.  Parking will be available adjacent to the race site, however, if you plan to leave before all participants are finished, you will need  to park near the entrance as we use the same road for the run.  Once the race has started, we will not allow cars to drive on this road.

If you plan to participate in multiple events, please support the Kettle Creek Conservation Area www.kettlecreekconservation.on.ca  519-269-3592 and purchase a season pass.  For $60 you will have access to the park for the entire season.  The vehicle fee is $7, which also includes bikes.  If you plan to ride in, make sure you have your season pass with you.

The 6 Pack can be purchased for $100 through the first 5 races.  You can buy the 6 pack race day on site as well.  Once accepted, entry fees will not be refunded.  Entries cannot be transferred between athletes or events.  A single event entry is good only for the night it is purchased.  In case an event is cancelled due to weather, a credit for another race will be issued.

Pre-registration is $20.  This MUST be received by the Tuesday of that week.  If your cheque  has not been received, please pay the fee and we will promise to destroy the cheque  when we receive it.  Race day fee is $23 and the late fee is donated to the Saunders Secondary cross country team and Kawasaki Disease foundation.

Race day entries must be received in cash or cherub.

If you are not an OAT member [Ontario Association of Triathletes] a one day insurance fee of $6 is mandatory.  If you do not have insurance, you cannot race.

We suggest that you secure seasonal insurance through OAT.

Life guards and volunteers will be posted on the swim course.  However, do not assume that you know how to swim, based on experience in a back yard pool.  This is open water, and the lake is not only a fresh, clean body of water, it is 50 feet at its deepest.  For a nominal fee, we will be providing open water clinics prior to the early races.  Check the site for clinic dates and costs.

Please take recyclables home and BE KIND to the environment.  DO not throw your gel/bar wrappers on the ground.  Any athlete caught doing so will be shamed into performing garbage duty for the remainder of the season.

If you are coming to watch, and would like to be a part of the race,  we can put you to work at aid stations, directing the athletes, timing, parking, helping with post race nutrition is welcomed.
